Study assessing the feasibility of a materials information platform containing data on substances of very high concern

The aim of the study is to assess the feasibility of a materials information system (MIP). The MIP is envisaged as a database with information on the potential content of substances of very high concern (SVHC) in different materials. The MIP should support in particular article importers and producers in fulfilling their communication obligations under REACH Article 7 and 33.

The work comprised the development of a concept of the materials information system, including proposals for the potential information content and the way how substance and materials information could be linked. Furthermore, an online survey was conducted to identify the REACH actors’ information needs and their readiness to provide data to the MIP. Finally, a prototype was programmed to test the MIP potential on two example materials and identify which information could be extracted from generic and specific information.

The result of the project is a report on the feasibility of the materials information system.
