The strategy for a non-toxic environment of the 7th Environment Action Programme (EAP)

The activities of the project support 6 enterprises in the Baltic States in their efforts to substitute environmentally hazardous substances in their products and processes. This includes an analysis of the used chemicals (substance inventory) and continuous support in the process of assessing alternatives, testing of substances regarding their technical quality and financing of necessary investments (e.g. machinery).

In addition, small and medium sized enterprises in the Baltic States will be supported in the introduction of a simple and low-cost chemicals management. This includes an assessment of their potential use of substances of very high concern (SVHC) and an analysis of substitution possibilities.

The activities in the companies are complemented with a campaign for green public procurement, the establishment of a company network and the development of tools and best practice examples on substitution. The project impacts will be measured using a set of environmental and socio-economic indicators.

Ökopol supports the local project team with strategic advice on the substitution processes and methodology as well as measuring the project impacts.
