1. Background and tasks
The European Eco-design-directive 2005/32/EG (EuP-Directive) creates a framework for the regulation of binding requirements to satisfy environmental demands in the design of products run by energy. A good portion of the environmental impact of a product is predetermined by its design and construction. Because of that the EuP-Directive aims at the improvement of the environmental sustainability of energy using products in the stage of their design.

Currently a multitude of preparatory studies and coordination processes are taking place within the EU to the further concretion of the directive. The German Federal Environment Ministry (BMU) and the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) want to foster the discussion process and the demand of information of the involved stakeholders on national level. Hence Ökopol was commissioned by the UBA to support the development of a network for German stakeholder and to facilitate their access to relevant information

2. Objectives and expected results
The aim of the project is to contribute to the development of a network of relevant German stakeholders as well as to the dialogue and determination of positions in the current process of implementation of the EuP-Directive. Furthermore an information supply, accessibly for all stakeholders, giving a German up-to-date overview of the state of affairs of the partially parallel running processes shall be provided.

By means of guideline supported interviews, Ökopol is going to gather and process assessments of relevant stakeholders for the design of the EuP-Directive. The exchange of information and the discussion of the national network shall be eased by three workshops. The topics will be orientated on the needs of the interviewed stakeholders.

Within a central internet portal in German language Ökopol is going to merge essential information concerning the numerous processes of the implementation of the EuP-Directive, and will spread this information to people interested via a newsletter.
