ÖKOPOL facilitates one day workshops for better
understanding of the VOC
regulations in the addressed countries and supports the practical
implementation by industry. Using the ÖKOPOL software tool EBAL
the participants comprehence the essential steps for the elaboration
of solvent management plans and reduction schemes.
Each workshop count with about 20-30 inspectors respectivly 20-30
members of solvent using industry (printing industry; coating of wood,
metals, platics; manufacturing of coatings; textile cleaning).
The project is executed in co-operation with the national bureaus
of REC (Regional Environmental Center).

The “Decopaint” Directive 2004/42/EC limits the VOC solvent content of non-industrial paints and varnishes, e.g. products of DIY superstores and vehicle refinishing products. Ökopol conducts a study for the European Parliament about the implementation in the 27 Member States and possible amendment of the directive.
The report shall contain proposals for 2010 maximum content of VOC solvents in vehicle refinishing products to support the aims of the Commission’s Thematic Strategy on Air . The study shall assess the economic, environmental and social impacts of an extension of the scope on additional products like aerosols.

Training program for REACH targeted to consultants
located in the Baltic States |

In this training program consultants located in the
Balitic states are trained on the implementation of the legislation
on the "New European Policy" REACH. The program is accomplished
in co-operation with the Contract KG and the Baltic Environmental
Forum. It is funded by the Bundestiftung Umwelt.
