Participation in technical working groups of the European Commission for the development of Best Available Techniques Reference documents (BREFs). Presently involved in the revision of documents for the following industries:

- cement and lime manufacturing industries
- pulp and paper production
- large volume organic chemicals
- refineries

| Surveyor during permitting procedure of a waste incineration plant |
Ökopol consults the municipal council of Rüdersdorf near Berlin during the permitting procedure on a waste incineration plant (250.000 t/y) projected by Vattenfall Waste-to-Energy GmbH for electricity supply of the local cement plant.The consulting is in particular on the question whether Best Available Techniques (BAT) have been taken into account for the design of the plant. BAT on waste incineration have been defined with the collaboration of Ökopol and were published by the EU-IPPC-Bureau in July 2005.

| Consulting on the implementation of the VOC Solvent Directive |
Ökopol consults companies on the implementation of the requirements of the EU Directive 1999/13 by developping Solvent Management Plans and Reduction Schemes. We consult on emission reduction measures and work as neutral surveyor in conflict situations between companies and authorities.

waste |
On the basis of a mandate of the European
Commission the technical committee "TC343 Solid Recovered Fuels"
of the European standardization organization CEN works for the first
time on standards for fuels that are not made out of "dangerous
wastes" and that shall be used in power stations and in the cement
industry. The cooperation of Oekopol takes place on behalf of ECOS,
an organization of European environmental federations.
