Background and tasks |
|
Emissions from passenger cars are one of the major contributors to total GHG emissions in the EU and since 1995 the Community has consistently developed a strategy to reduce CO 2 emissions from new passenger cars. The progress achieved in the average new car fleet CO 2 emissions is monitored on the basis of the data reported by Member States under Regulation (EC) 443/2009. This regulation lays down a number of obligations regarding the provision of statistical data related to new cars being registered in a given year in the EU. Furthermore it is setting emission performance standards for new passenger cars as part of the Community's integrated approach to reduce CO 2 emissions from light-duty vehicles. The regulation defines the rules for monitoring the CO 2 emission level and other characteristics from newly registered cars. The Directorate General for Climate Action of the European Commission has requested that the European Environment Agency (EEA) takes on the task of running the database on CO 2 emissions from light duty vehicles. |

Objectives

The subject of the service contract is to assist the EEA in the monitoring procedure of the CO 2 emission of the new fleet emissions (monitoring year 2010) under the Regulation (EC) 443/2009. |

- Support to EEA for Member States requests
- Check of the procedure followed in the collection and calculation of the CO 2 emission
- Check of the delivery for the Commission
- Support in reporting to the Commission
