  Technical Experts in permitting procedure of a coal power station
  Commissioned by the Baltic Sea project office of WWF in Stralsund , Ökopol assesses the application documents of the Danish energy company DONG , intending to build up and run a coal fired power plant in Lubmin on the German coast line of the Baltic Sea between the islands of Rügen and Usedom (1600 MW nominal power, 3700 MW peak power).

Ökopol checks the documents of DONG focussing on emission levels, expected impacts of pollutants and conformity with best available techniques for large combustion plants.

  Trainings for the VOC-Directive in Slovenia, Bulgaria, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia
  ÖKOPOL facilitates one day workshops for better understanding of the VOC regulations in the addressed countries and supports the practical implementation by industry. Using the ÖKOPOL software tool EBAL the participants comprehence the essential steps for the elaboration of solvent management plans and reduction schemes.
Each workshop count with about 20-30 inspectors respectivly 20-30 members of solvent using industry (printing industry; coating of wood, metals, platics; manufacturing of coatings; textile cleaning).
The project is executed in co-operation with the national bureaus of REC (Regional Environmental Center).

  Reduction of VOC Solvents in Paints and Varnishes
  The “Decopaint” Directive 2004/42/EC limits the VOC solvent content of non-industrial paints and varnishes, e.g. products of DIY superstores and vehicle refinishing products. Ökopol conducts a study for the European Parliament about the implementation in the 27 Member States and possible amendment of the directive.

The report shall contain proposals for 2010 maximum content of VOC solvents in vehicle refinishing products to support the aims of the Commission’s Thematic Strategy on Air . The study shall assess the economic, environmental and social impacts of an extension of the scope on additional products like aerosols.

  Environmental Standard-Exposure-Scenario for substances in dye stuffs and textile finishing chemicals for registration under the REACH system
  The project aims to develop a sector specific standard-exposure scenario (including calculation of exposure concentrations) for the use of dye stuffs and finishing chemicals in the textile manufacturing sector. This standard scenario is structured in such way that it may serve as a prototype for other sectors as well. Once the drafting work is finished the outcome will be compared with VCI's categorisation approach in order to identify the main differences and/or similarities. The project is carried out in cooperation with Chemiedaten and Oekoinstitut, 6 companies manufacturing and using textile chemicals and 3 industry associations.   In this training program consultants located in the Balitic states are trained on the implementation of the legislation on the "New European Policy" REACH. The program is accomplished in co-operation with the Contract KG and the Baltic Environmental Forum. It is funded by the Bundestiftung Umwelt.
